A drifter becomes part of a carnival where he learns how to pretend to be psychic in order to perform as a mentalist. He becomes so good at performing this act that he develops a genuine career in show business. That leads to an offer from a wealthy woman to help her contact her deceased daughter. However, his plans to fleece this woman come under threat when his wife and partner isn't sure she can follow through with the ruse.
