The story of Jane Froman, a popular singer in the '30s and '40s whose career took a tragic turn in 1943 when the plane carrying her to entertain GIs crashed near Portugal and left her with near-fatal injuries that impacted her physically. As Froman, Susan Hayward earned her fourth Best Actress nomination. Alfred Newman won an Oscar for his scoring.
